The Cursed Blue Rose
Unlike the desert towns that share its part of the continent, Tenedos sits on tundra — hard, treeless country where the soil stays frozen below a thin summer skin and farming is not a serious proposition. Mining is. The town was raised in the fourth wave of expansion and lives on what its shafts bring up, which means it also lives on what is carried in: fuel, grain, timber and cloth, all of it hauled across open ground. Winter narrows the town to its workings and its hearths, and the summer months are spent stockpiling against it.
The Tenedene are Lohanar, a people of accord and written arrangement, which is much of how a modest town survives on ground this unforgiving — shares in a shaft, terms for hauling, agreed rations. Their obligations run to Brunthar, but the hand that governs Tenedos is Darolas's, and it is within the Darolas bloc that the town is counted. Faith here is the Religion of the Ruby, whose all-female priesthood keeps a fire burning through the long cold — the one warmth in Tenedos that answers to nobody's quota.
