The Cursed Blue Rose
The forest comes almost to the waterline here, tall seasonal woodland that floods green in the wet months and thins to brown branch in the dry, and the city is built into that seam between timber and tide. Ships are Mareva's chief business, and everything is arranged around them: slipways and careening beaches, rope-walks, sail-lofts, warehouses stacked with whatever the fleets have carried in. Behind the docks the harvest arrives from cleared ground and forest margin to be sorted, priced and turned around again as trade. Little that passes through Mareva stays long.
One of the original foundations of the south, Mareva is the seat from which its bloc takes its name; decisions made on these quays bind cities well beyond the walls. The Marevese are Lohanar to the core, governed by accord and standing agreement rather than by plain command, with guild custom and civic charter carrying much of the weight that arms carry elsewhere. The Religion of the Ruby is the faith of the city, tended here as everywhere by an all-female priesthood.
