The Cursed Blue Rose
Ferrava is a heavy place. It sits on the tropical seasonal forest coast of the south, where the rain arrives in a season and departs in a season, and it lives on what is dug from the ground behind it. Mines feed foundries, foundries feed the yards, and the yards feed ships. What the city makes is not delicate work: metal in bar and plate, fittings, tools, anchor-stock and fastenings, the raw fabric of other people's building, all of it leaving in bulk. Position counts for as much as product. Ferrava holds ground that other powers need, and it is weighed in strategic terms at least as often as in coin.
Counted among the original foundations of its people, the city carries its loyalties in layers. Allegiance is sworn to Arkenta. The hand that actually governs comes from Mareva. In the wider alignment of the south, Ferrava stands inside Mareva's bloc. Ferravans manage the arrangement the way Lohanar manage most things, by written terms and agreed shares, and it holds because it suits everyone who profits from the smoke.
