The Cursed Blue Rose
An oath is not a promise. A promise is a thing you said. An oath is a thing that now exists.
Tykoreia is the schema of contracts, oaths and relational commitment — the working by which an agreement between parties stops being an intention and becomes a structure with its own weight.
It is everywhere, and almost nobody thinks of it as sorcery. The pledge a legionary of the Legion of Ash makes to his commander is Tykoreia. So is the oath the Bloodbound Covenant swore at the Blood Gate. So are the treaty roots of Hylessa, carved and sung and witnessed, and so is a great deal of ordinary commercial law in every trading city on the coast.
What makes it dangerous is not power. It is that a bound word is enforced by the working rather than by anyone's goodwill — and the working has no opinion about whether the terms were wise.
