Settled in the first wave of expansion after the original foundations, Hylessa is older than most of what surrounds it and no larger for the distinction. The town sits where temperate rainforest meets the ocean in the east, and its business is making rather than moving. Hylessans take sap, dye-bark, seed, fibre and rare timber from the forest a stem at a time and never clear it, and the workshops turn that harvest into finished goods. A share of the craft is arcane, worked into the material rather than laid over it.
The people are Suvanar and keep Verdancy, which in Hylessa shows less in observance than in habit. What is taken is replanted. A grove worked out is a loss the whole town counts against the family that spent it, and the same instinct runs through the town's politics. Hylessa answers to the Verdant Kin, and through them stands within the wider bloc seated at Berevik.
