The Lake Does the Carrying

Set where forest tracks come down to open water, Menyets is a modest town that exists because a lake is faster than a road. Cargo that drags under the eastern rainforest canopy moves quickly once it is afloat, and the Menyetsi have built their living on that difference — sheds and scales along the shore, boats going out loaded and coming back loaded, goods that never sit still long enough to gather damp. The surrounding forest supplies the second trade, timber and forage brought in as the season allows. The third is learning: taught, copied and sold to whoever will pay for it.

Ledger, Lamp and Loyalty

Menyetsi are Suvanar of the most recent expansion, a lake-town people accustomed to strangers and to charging them fairly. Governance runs upward. Bannevar rules here, and Bannevar answers to Risbern, which makes this modest place a small but useful hinge in a much larger arrangement. The faith of the town is the Radiant Light, and its observances mark the trading year as reliably as the changing level of the water does.
