The Cursed Blue Rose
Beneath the roots of the western boreal forest lie the seams Lanekut was raised to open. No lake reaches the place and no coastline; the trees close in on every side, and everything above ground serves what happens below. Cut timber goes to props and fuel, cleared ground to spoil heaps and sorting floors, the ways out to hauling. Winter does not stop the work. It makes the loads heavier and the frozen ground easier to cross, and the pace of the year is set by that trade rather than by any harvest.
The name in use is the second one. Kulanezkut came first, and the shorter form stands in its place now. Lanekut came out of the fifth and most recent wave of expansion, and its allegiance runs to Kabaso. Its people are Ashanar, covenant-minded and exact about terms, settled far inland from the horizons their kin more often sail toward.
