The Cursed Blue Rose
Harayar took the workbench over the plough, which in this country is less a preference than an admission: hard-leaved scrub on thin soil, long dry months, brush that burns and comes back, and not a decent field in it. One of the original Ashanar foundations, the town stayed modest and turned productive instead. Workshops in place of farms, kilns and hammers in place of herds, brushwood cut for charcoal and charcoal burnt for heat. What leaves here leaves finished: cordage, worked hide, fired ware, tools with an edge already on them.
Its people are Ashanar, and the covenant they keep is a working one, in which an order taken is an order filled. Harayar's allegiance runs to Tiramun on the coast, and past Tiramun to the wider bloc of Kerevoz, which in practice means much of what the town produces has a destination before it is begun. Age has not bought the place independence, only the practice that comes of doing one thing for a very long time.
