The Cursed Blue Rose
Sokasi has neither coast nor river, so everything it lifts out of the ground leaves overland — on sledges while the snow holds, on carts once the thaw ruins the sledging. The town lies deep in the north-western boreal forest, ringed close by spruce, and reveals itself from a distance only as smoke and steam: mine-heads, spoil heaps gone green with moss, wind chimneys venting warm air into cold. Timber is felled here for props, scaffolding and charcoal rather than for sale. The ore is plain working ore, and the digging of it is unhurried.
What Sokasi is known for is not what it digs but what it makes for others who dig: tackle, lamps, fittings, cutting tools, all worked to another hold's measure and sent on without the haggling a trader would expect. That is friend-craft rather than trade. Sokasi belongs to the second wave of expansion and works the same rock as the older holds around it, but the gear in their hands is its doing. Every dwarf in the town is a son, crafted by an older hand, and ore and toolwork alike go where Kotori directs.
