The Cursed Blue Rose
The rock beneath Silanur is worked in shafts, and the city above is arranged entirely to serve what comes up out of them — winding gear at the pit heads, sorting floors, spoil ridges greening over with moss at their older ends. The lake takes the output. Ore is carted down to the shore and barged away, cheaper than any road through that country and possible for most of the year. Between the workings the forest presses back hard; cleared ground has to be won again from the spruce every few seasons.
Mining suits the elves of Silanur, who follow a seam the way other peoples follow a family line, and can afford to open a working that will not pay out for a century. The city came up in the second wave of expansion and has grown by increments ever since, each new pit trailing its own quarter of houses behind it. It holds to the Glac Dom, and its metal leaves under that allegiance.
